Woody Hume

Woody Hume has lived most of his life in the Northern Virginia area, playing many different styles of music. During the 1970s and early 80s, he played in several Top 40 commercial rock groups performing around the Washington, D.C. area. His love for jazz begin while living and earning a Bachelors of Music Education degree from the University of Southern Mississippi. During this time, he spent many weekends in New Orleans experiencing Dixieland and swing music.

Woody has been actively involved in Contemporary Christian music and is currently a worship leader in Dranesville United Methodist Church's contemporary worship service, and is the percussionist in their Praise Team "Upon This Rock". He often plays the drum set, but is also an accomplished Latin and African percussionist. He has also been involved in performing with his church's hand bell choir.

He spent the last 26 years as a free lance drummer and percussionist. He played with the late Easy Smith jazz group for 18 years. Woody is the solid time keeper with the "The Donna Salter Quartet", and they can be heard the first Friday of each month at the Ice House Café.

Donna Salter

Donna grew up in Detroit, Michigan, where she began singing with the Choral groups at her Jr. High and High School. She then went on to sing Pop music and Motown with the Local area Bands. Upon moving to San Diego in her early twenties, she began performing with the popular Wedding Band "Tasty".

In Kona, Hawaii, Donna broke into the Big Band Jazz scene, singing lead for the Bill Noble and Clem Low Orchestras along with the "Diamond Sisters". She also sang classic Standards, Hawaiian Music and Broadway favorites at the Kona Village Resort with the Clem Low Trio.

Now settled in Virginia, Donna works as Song Leader and soloist for the Unity of Fairfax church, where she is also hired for wedding ceremonies and memorial services. She has been singing in the alto section of the Unity Choir since 1996, and in September of 2003, under the Musical Direction of Carole Tomhave, joined Unity's newly formed 10-piece Inspirational Band "New Day".

Donna has held leading musical roles in local productions with both the Fauquier Community Theatre and the Warrenton United Methodist Church. She has also been featured as a soloist with the Warrenton Chorale. Her radio jingle for the F&M Peoples Bank in Fredericksburg aired in Washington D.C. and surrounding areas the summer of 2001.

Donna began singing with accomplished Jazz Guitarist Bob Meyers and "The Bob Meyers Trio" in April, 2000. In their 4 years together, they played such venues as Georgetown's Blues Alley, The Bluemont Concert Series, The Ice House Café and The Airlie Conference Center to name a few. Their performance at the Herndon Festival Concert in May of 2003 can be seen regularly on Cox Cable, local channel 23.

With the tremendous love and support of co-Ministers Terry and Donna Dearmore and the Unity of Fairfax church, Donna flew to Nashville, Tennessee in May of 2002, to record a CD of vocal Jazz Standards. Renowned Nashville Big Band Leader Jim Hoke, arranged and co-produced her (lifetime dream come true) album, entitled "Love Is Here". A&R Man, Terry Dearmore, is featured singing on two duets with Donna and Bob Meyers' beautiful guitar work can be heard throughout. Donna celebrated the release of her CD, on September 4, 2002.

Donna loves recording and flew back to Nashville the following May, 2003 to record two original standards written by Terry Dearmore. She hopes to add them to her 2nd Jazz album. Donna also recorded with Unity's "New Day" Band here in Virginia on their first CD entitled "New Day Dawning" released in February of 2005.

Donna is very excited to announce the release of her 2nd Solo CD entitled "Grace" on December 2, 2005. An Inspirational Album featuring 18 of her favorite musicians, among them her daughter Cassandra! Engineer Bob Bencze recorded all 18 musicians at his studio "Burning House Records" in Hamilton, Virginia. Donna finished recording her vocals and mixing in Nashville, TN, with engineer Randy Leago at his studio "Highlands Digital". Partial proceeds of the "Grace" CD will benefit the Unity of Fairfax Church. Donna is looking forward to recording a Christmas CD next.

Donna is very happy to be alive after surviving breast cancer and completing treatment in 2001. Her story was featured by writer Deborah Shepherd on the front page of The Fauquier Times Democrat, in the November 27, 2002 issue. She and the Unity of Fairfax church, donate $3 from the sale of each "Love Is Here" CD to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation "National Race For The Cure". Donna enjoys participating with her family in the annual 5K walk each June in Washington D.C.

Currently, Donna is performing with her new group "The Donna Salter Quartet" featuring pianist Ray Mabalot, bassist John Dahlman and drummer Woody Hume. They can be heard the first Friday of every month at the Ice House Café in Herndon, Virginia.
